GSI organises Workshop and Plenary Session as part of GeoSmart India 2024 Expo
GeoSmart Expo 2024
Hyderabad: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) successfully organized an engaging workshop and plenary session titled “Transforming Geological Surveys with the Power of Geospatial Technology” as part of the GeoSmart India 2024 Expo held here at International Convention Centre (HICC) on Wednesday. The event, which emphasized advancements in geospatial technologies for geological surveys, was inaugurated by Asit Saha, Director General of the Geological Survey of India.
The inaugural session commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Asit Saha, symbolizing enlightenment and progress. In his inaugural address, Saha highlighted the critical role of geospatial technologies in modernizing geological surveys and emphasized pivotal contributions of GSI toward advancing Indian mineral exploration and geo-scientific capabilities.
During the workshop, several presentations were made highlighting the use of geospatial technologies by GSI in its various activity domains such as Online Core Business Integrated System (OCBIS), the portal of GSI which supports a wide array of functions, including data visualization, resource assessment, and dissemination of geo-scientific information to stakeholders. The presentation on National Geoscience Data Repository (NGDR) demonstrated application of high-resolution geospatial tools to integrate geochemical, geological, and remote sensing data. This integration enables efficient mineral potential mapping and exploration block demarcation, which significantly reduces exploration costs and enhances decision-making accuracy.
The workshop emphasised commitment of GSI towards advancing India’s geo-scientific research for economic and societal benefits and concluded with a panel discussions in which the important steps required for laying a future road map for adoption of geospatial technologies in geo-science domain to improved data accuracy and strategic resource management were discussed.
